based in Switzerland Geneva/Gunten
Chiz Records was created by Alex Sumi and Fred Sumi in 2000. The label is groove oriented with a focus on Cuban music.
The project EDKUB, founded in 2018 by Fred Sumi, builds a bridge between Cuban and electronic music. Since his first stay in Cuba in 1995, Fred Sumi has been passionate about Cuban music, especially about the musical style timba. EDKUB was born from his passion and sound aesthetics as a producer: Cuban grooves produced with warm and spherical electronic sounds. EDKUB is the result of friendship and collaboration with great Cuban musicians during several recording sessions in Havana and Geneva.
For the 6th opus of SUMO “Oya”, the journey continues by exploring new horizons, rhythms and sounds. The group exiled itself to Cuba, where two tours (Habanarte festival in 2016 and Cubadisco in 2017) in support of their previous album had brought about striking and heartfelt friendships. In this new adventure, Sumo met his Cuban soul brothers to become SUMO y Los Hermanos del Alma.
The brother duo has explored the universe since their youngest age and were first known as BMX freestyle pioneers in Europe (champions of France and Switzerland) and already then tried to reach the sky and escape into another galaxy.
They started their music career in a very young age and founded in 1999 the soul-funk-electro project SUMO and released five albums: Before the Sun (2004), Rise (2006), Over the Beat (2010), Ex-Machina (2013) and Galactika feat. Wayne Paul, UK (2016). As a live band they have performed before artists such as Faithless, Jamie Lidell or Gotan Project. SUMO tracks were played on worldwide radio stations (BBC Gilles Peterson Worldwide, Nova) and were published on various compilations along with Laurent Garnier and Moby.
